Reva, Laura and I went to the Fallbrook Coffee Shop to drink (iced tea) and draw - after dancing (zumba). This would be the DDD. Using Laura as an unsuspecting model, I drew her on toned paper with pastel pencils. Before playing with the drawing at home, it actually resembled Laura. Somehow in reworking the mouth and opening her eyes, I lost Laura. However, I did capture her skinny figure!
This is from last week's experiment with batik on rice paper. Reva was our fearless leader and she had us splattering soy wax in no time. The first step was to paint wax on the whites we wanted to save. We then painted light values and covered painted areas with wax. Layers were built up followed by wax. After the dark values were painted, wax was applied over the entire painting. The rice paper was then crumpled up with a final coat of palette mud applied in an attempt to unify the colors. Wax was then removed by ironing paper between several layers of newsprint. Too much fun.
This was from our first fall session. The object was to have a wide range of values and to lay blocks of paint in with a brush. Particular attention was paid to the dampness of the paper. We wanted the colors to merge on the edges, while at the same time retaining separate blocks of paint. Tricky.
